Step 2: Purchasing Your Domain Name

Step 2: Purchase Your Domain.

Remember, this is the only mandatory cost. We recommend using a dedicated domain registrar for the best long-term value.

Our top recommendations are Namecheap, Porkbun, and Cloudflare Registrar. They offer competitive pricing and transparent renewal fees. Visual: Highlight Namecheap as the example we will use for the demo. Let's use Namecheap as our example. Navigate to their website. In the search bar, type the domain name you want. For example, LinkedMediaAcademyTest.com.

(Crucial Tip) Always check the renewal price, not just the first-year price. Some registrars offer a very cheap first year but hike the price significantly later. Namecheap and Porkbun are generally transparent. Visual: Zoom in on the price breakdown, highlighting the first-year vs. renewal cost. Once you find an available domain, add it to your cart and complete the purchase. You only need to buy the domain name itself. You do not need to purchase hosting, email, or any other add-ons.

After purchase, log into your registrar's dashboard. You now own your professional website address!

(Technical Concept: DNS) The next step is to tell your domain name where your website lives. This is done using something called DNS or Nameservers. Think of it as updating the GPS coordinates for your address.

We'll tackle that in the next lesson.
